Whistler, BC: The Whistler Sliding Centre is open again to the public and is offering summer bobsleigh and free sightseeing. Summer bobsleigh rides are offered on weekends in July and August 2020 (starting on July 18), free sightseeing is possible daily.
Summer bobsleigh tours run on Saturdays and Sundays in July and August, with sessions starting every 30 minutes from 10am to 2pm. The first day of operation is July 18. After an orientation and a tour of the 2010 Olympic Winter Games venue, teams will ride in a bobsleigh equipped with wheels, steered by a trained pilot, with speeds of up to 90km/hr. The “Youth Slide Free” discount makes the activity affordable especially for families: A youth (ages 12-18) slides free when accompanied by a paying adult (1:1 ratio, adult price $99; additional youth pay 50% off the adult price). No previous experience is required to participate, minimum age is 12, some physical restrictions apply. The activity is offered rain or shine, pre-booking is recommended. Increased sanitation & safety protocols and small group sizes help prevent the spread of COVID-19.
Self-guided sightseeing is possible free of charge daily from 9:00am to 4:00pm. Visitors can explore the sliding track and learn about its operation, sports and athletes on the interpretive walking route (stroller/wheelchair friendly). Access to the Guest Services building with washrooms, retail and refreshments is available.
Winter operations with sliding on ice will resume in October, with bobsleigh and skeleton activities for public participants, youth and adult sport programs as well as athlete training and competitions through to March.
